I just posted about reccomendations for Taylors other books. So I thought it would be cool to do a discussion thread. They clearly inspired eachother in a lot of ways, have tons of themes in common, etc etc. As I was writing I realized that The Singularity Trap and the Bobiverse books 2 and 3 were written in tandem and released really close together. Thus I got way off topic, and it got really, really long. We all have different taste and opinions, you are fully welcome to not like things I like :) ) Anyway, I have ADHD and my focus meds kicked in as I was doing so. I was writing a reply to u/NickRick, who didn't like this book, explaining why I liked it. I love this book and really want to be able to talk about it with someone. Plus there is no sub for this book or Taylor so I don't really have anywhere else to post it or to discuss with people who have read it. It is also by Dennis E Taylor and has a lot in common with The Bobiverse, and references, compares and contrasts it with it. ![]() ![]() Then somehow the fact that a policeman is working under cover becomes public knowledge. He blends into the sometimes invisble community easily - too easily perhaps - but the information he gleans quickly proves that this is no random killer, it is someone with a very distinct purpose and a very specific list of victims, only the team supporting Thorne from the outside don't have the key to motive or identity. ![]() So when it appears someone is targeting London's homeless community it seems pefectly natural for Thorne to take a step nearer to the gutter and go undercover amongst them. The trauma that she endures is deftly handled but I loved how feisty she is, refusing to give up or cower in spite of the circumstances she ends up in. The storyline that touches on the subject of human trafficking was painful but the author sketches a brilliant character arc for its heroine Alessia. I did love how the author redeems his qualities and brings about a complete turnaround for the character though. ![]() ![]() The first few pages show the reader the flamboyant playboy that Maxim is, it was kind of like he has affairs with anything that has legs scenario which did feel unnecessary to the plot that follows. The Mister is leaps and bounds different from the fifty shades and readers going in expecting a similar storyline are definitely gonna be disappointed. I am not a die-hard fan of the series and still believe that books 2 & 3 were unnecessary but Christian Grey and Ana are my favorite characters and the intense love story between them was simply mind-blowing. The 50 shades trilogy created waves, of course, irrespective of the tacky names like mummy porn and all that. E L James’ The Mister firmly establishes the author’s captivating story-telling capabilities. ![]() ![]() ![]() Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme have been used for centuries both as remedies and as seasoning.Īlthough we associate the four herbs with the "Scarborough Fair", the herby refrain is a relatively new addition to the old song it's believed to originate in the 19th century. We are Wild Zora, not Bland Zora! We experimented with a variety of seasonings, but in the end decided to go with the herb combo immortalized in Scarborough Fair: parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Onions and garlic are natural companions of pork meat and without them, it tastes bland. Even more challenging: the new flavor was going to be made with pork. But if you ever tried to cook without onions and garlic, you know that the resulting dish isn't often bursting with flavor. It's important to us to accommodate our friends with food sensitivities. When I was in 9 th grade, I really began to feel “writerly.” I had an English teacher who challenged me to write stories every month for extra credit, and by the end of that school year, I kind of got to be known as “the kid who writes,” and it stuck. When did you first discover your love for writing? Well, I’ve somehow managed to make an entire career out of making stuff up, which I still find amazing. I’ve published 50 books, and hopefully have another fifty left in me. They vary in genre, but they’re all stories that challenge readers to think, from a surreal take on mental illness in CHALLENGER DEEP, which won the National Book Award, to the consequences of immortality, in the ARC OF A SCYTHE series.
